Bengali 5-Spice is a spice blend of Bengali origin and known as Panch Phoron. This is a whole spice blend that is used as a base for curries or with vegetable dishes. Traditionally the mixture is lightly fried in oil to impart flavor to the oil before adding the main ingredients or fried in ghee and stirred into cooked grain, lentil or vegetable dishes just before they are served. It creates a aromatic base for any curry, stew, soup and imparts additional flavor to roasted vegetables.
